When we received the announcement that Melbourne-based Total Image Supplies had been appointed as a Mutoh dealer, we had to confess scant knowledge of the company. Happening to be in Melbourne this week, we dropped in to find out - and what a pleasant surprise it was.

As the PrintEx/Visual Impact show demonstrated in August, there is no shortage of large suppliers to the Sign, Display and Graphics sector. However, there is always the risk that, with consolidations, mergers and acquisitions, the agility of smaller suppliers, offering great service can be forgotten. With boots-on-the-ground at Total Image Supplies, enthusiastically led by Tyson Buechler, we found a rising star in the making.

Based just north of Melbourne's CBD, Total Image Supplies services a national client base and has negotiated a freight deal that provides both speed and excellent rates. When WFOL visited, Tyson had just shipped an Ideal guillotine up to Darwin!
"We are very selective in what we offer," says Tyson. "Consumables of course are very important and we carry good stocks of original manufacturer's inks and top-quality media from Sihl, Ilford and PhotoTex as well as a broad range of Cello, ALC and Ilfoguard lamination films. But we also offer a carefully picked range of hardware, such as the new Mutoh range that complements our Canon ImagePrograf aqueous wide format printers well."
Total Image Supplies won Canon's dealer of the year award in 2018. Other hardware includes Ideal guillotines and Uchida slitter & card cutter, wide format laminators and roll laminators from Lamination Systems such as Sign Easy Plus & Pro, and SignMaster, Exelam and Neolt trimmers.
"We're not trying to be all things to all people, " says Tyson, "Our range is picked for quality, reliability and our ability to support it."
Taking the 'Cook's tour' around Total Image Supplies, we find CRM and marketing material and IT systems that you would only expect to find in much larger companies; there's Katie in customer support, Jason in the warehouse, Emily in marketing an admin department run by Kelly and of course the man at the helm. The need for more warehouse space has seen TIS sub-lease additional space nearby: "You can't sell what you haven't got in stock," as Tyson says.

It's quite apparent that, in its twelve years in operation, Total Image Supplies has built a great deal of respect and trust with its customer base that includes national franchises. Tyson's previous experience with Adkote and subsequent learning curves have delivered product knowledge that must rank near the top of the industry. Now, with eco-solvent and UV printers from Mutoh added to the stable, 'tis only a matter of time before we see much more of Total Image Supplies.
