An ASIC noticed posted last Thursday, 14 November said a company meeting resolved to wind up the business and appoint joint liquidators Andrew Yeo and Gess Rambaldi of accounting firm Pitcher Partners, Melbourne.

Adherettes, based in a 3700sqm facility in Port Melbourne, manufactures a variety of signage types from vinyl, banners, acrylic, metal, illuminated signs, sky signs, architectural signs, directional signs, vehicle markings, digital printing and braille signs.

High profile clients include ANZ Bank, Medibank, Westfield, Myer and Telstra. Owner Mark Ernst is a prominent member of Melbourne's Jewish community, says the company website.

"Adherettes was established in 1956 and purchased by Philip Ernst in 1976 from its previous owners. From a small operation manufacturing only vinyl decals, Adherettes has developed into a successful, modern and diversified sign company which is a market leader.

“We’ve held onto our manufacturing expertise and added project managers and award-winning designers to our flexible team, so we can take care of all of it: the design, project management, manufacture and installation of signage and branding requirements, including bespoke, national rollout, wayfinding, architectural treatments or digital.”

An Adherettes staff member on Wednesday confirmed that the company was in liquidation, adding: “We are open at the moment, until the liquidators make a decision.”

Pitcher Partners has been contacted for comment.

Publisher's note: This is a very sad situation for a company that has performed so well and been unafraid to try new signage techniques over the years. The latest, 888 Collins Street is an architectural lighting marvel to behold (see pic below). We understand that a key director and Ernst family member passed away from cancer not long ago and this may have impacted the company. Other forces may have come into play, creating a 'perfect storm' that disrupted the company. We wish them, the staff and customers well.
