A trip to the local Swimart pool shop turned into a Christmas surprise for WFOL publisher Andy McCourt. Across the front windows was a terrific Christmas mural - not digitally-printed but airbrushed on by Sydney artist David Brown...here it is.

"My first instinct was to think it had been inkjet-printed using clear film, but closer inspection showed there were no seams or edge-ridges," says McCourt. "It looks fantastic and it's great to see airbrush work on this scale is still thriving."
The artist, David Brown from Sydney's Northern Beaches, has been airbrushing for over thirty years and originally trained in the animation business. "I work on my own and use compressed air and the airbrushes with enamel paint, which is scratch-resistant," he told Wideformatonline. "Murals cost from $400+gst up depending on size with this one costing $800+gst. I also include removal of the artwork after the campaign has ended."

David's facebook page shows many examples of both temporary and permanent airbrush work, including a 50 metre x 5 metre mural for a skip company, body art and beach scenes on board ready for framing.
Airbrush work gives a very pleasing soft look with good vibrancy thanks to the pigment density in the enamel paint. The results are also more resistant to light-fading and can be applied to curved and rough surfaces, such as brickwork.
Airbrushed vehicles such as ice-cream vans and mobile coffee wagons are often seen around our cities - challenging wrapping in a way.
