The Australian Society of Old Friends, founded over 100 years ago, joined with the Press Gang, the LIA and Penrith Museum of Printing this week, to stage a Christmas function at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Forty industry notables and their partners enjoyed a fun night starting with drinks on the balcony overlooking a rather smoky Sydney Harbour.

because we welcome our first lady member, Jean Kropper, who has established a reputation here and in the USA as an expert on paper engineering, hand book-binding and other creative uses of paper.''

Cryer added: ''I’d like to extend special thanks to Scott Telfer who has stepped down as president after serving two and a half terms - and who was largely responsible for driving many of the changes that will hold the organisation in good shape going forward. Tonight's record attendance of 40 is testament to that. We welcome Stephan Peters, well known print industry consultant, as our new President. I know Stephan would agree that all organisations need to make changes to survive: Old Friends is doing that - and it's a great way to keep in touch with colleagues who have a passion for our industry - whether they're young or old! We welcome new members - contact either myself or Stephan.''

Guest speaker Ben Mizzi, an accomplished multi-media, graphic design and film director, was presented by Stephan Peters, with a 3D printed mini replica of the original Gutenberg hand printing press. (these models are available for purchase from the Museum and proceeds help run this volunteer-staffed place).
Many well-known faces from the industry, both present and past, enjoyed an evening of association, dining and probably a yarn or two.
Planning for co-operative events and site visits is already underway for 2020.
