Driven by the LIA and Visual Connections, several trade associations combined to stage a social gathering at Sydney's Carnarvon Golf Club on Wednesday night. This was no formal agenda-driven event, just a pleasant way of saying 'Covid is nearly defeated - let's get together.' Over 60 old and new friends mixed and mingled, laughed and dined in a convivial atmosphere of colleagueship.

The event was the brainchild of the LIA and ably organised by Visual Connections staffers. It drew together representatives from the PVCA, Visual Connections, the FPLMA, Museum of Print, Old Friends Association, FESPA, the Press Gang and Women in Print. Trade media and PacPrint board members were also there.
It made a clear statement that we are one industry and the cross-over between processes, applications and trade skills is gaining pace as digitalisation unites print disciplines.
Speeches were kept short and to the point, a fine dinner was served up and the networking was widespread as people celebrated the opportunity to meet face-to-face again after months of lockdowns, separations and Zoom.

Brew from HP exhorted all to embrace the upcoming trade show in September, whick aready has several major exhibitors booked in on large stands. Museum of Print evangelist Bob Lockley, formerly Ops director with Fairfax and Rural Press, encourage everyone to support the Penrith, NSW located Museum, noted that it was a working time capsule of Letterpress print and hot metal typesetting, while JDA Print Recruiting's James Cryer, also a Museum of Print disciple, called for more business cards to add to his already burgeoning collection of notable names from the industry.
Kevin Flippance, recently appointed to the FPLMA board, de-mystified the structure of the Flexographic, Labels and Packaging association, whose members have helped keep supermarket shelves stocked and social distancing labels/signage stuck everywhere during Covid.
