The New Zealand Sign & Display Association’s annual Awards of Excellence were presented in Queenstown on Friday night. “Wow! - What A Night!,” said the NZSDA. “Congratulations to all of those who took home an award at the 2022 NZ Sign Display Awards of Excellence." Gold medal winners included a cardboard replica of a Shelby GT500 Mustang.
Gold medal winner of the 'Theming' category was 1940s Four Square Grocery Store by The Old Sign Studio.
"This set has been designed and built in house and the supporting product props had to be recreated from research and photographs - such as Coca-Cola crates, apple boxes, Pears Soap mirror and all of the old period signage," the company said. "The phone box (including phone mechanism), mailbox, bench seat, shop counter and display unit and the mural are all built from scratch in house. Mural, signage etc all hand painted using acrylics and aged to match the vintage of the automobiles."

This 1:1 corrugated cardboard replica of the Shelby GT500 Mustang Eleanor from 'Gone In 60 Seconds' was used as a statement piece displayed at a Mike Pero conference promoting car graphics, said the Onehunga, Auckland company.
'Sign Written Vehicles - Digital' gold went to Daily Dose Cosmic Coffee by Aztech Signs.
“The client came to us wanting a new concept for her Coffee Trailer as she was having trouble attracting clients,” said Aztech. “We came up with the ‘Cosmic Coffee Creature’ concept, creating a 70s style acid trip/cosmic background, gave it some depth using shadows etc then completely re-designed the logo to suit and also created a few creature characters and applied them to various thicknesses of Signex giving the creatures, stars and the coffee wording a 3D pop out effect that the kids and even some adults got a kick out of.”
