The Australian Sign & Graphics Association (ASGA) will hold the first of its signage taster courses in Brisbane next month before a national roll-out later this year and early next year. The courses are designed to build on the momentum of series of successful ASGA career expos hosted by AusSIP.
The first Signage 'taster course' is on October 26-27 at Southbank TAFE, Brisbane |
It has been a busy year for ASGA’s industry education liaison managers, AusSIP. They have represented ASGA at nine career expos across five states, joined by a host of TAFE signage teachers, ASGA Directors and industry personnel.
“We’re pleased to report that we’ve obtained close to 400 sign-ups from the career expos. If we can convert a good percentage of those to apprenticeships in the next couple of years, this will go a long way in helping to ease the skills shortage in the sign industry that we expect will remain a problem for at least the short to medium term,” said ASGA President, Mick Harrold.
“We have the first of our signage taster courses scheduled for the 26th and 27th of October at TAFE Queensland, Southbank, Brisbane, with others around the states being organised for later in the year and early next year.”
The taster courses will be held in collaboration with various training institutions and industry suppliers and are designed as a hands-on introduction to various aspects of sign making. They will cover:
- a general overview and introduction to the industry;
- a mini-TAFE tour of the relevant facilities;
- multiple hands on activities;
- use of technology and suitable applications;
- industry site visit.
A flier has already been distributed to those that signed-up for information on signage courses at the Queensland Careers Expos in 2021 and 2022. To ensure maximum take-up, we’re encouraging everyone to also distribute this to their networks.
