Following on from the re-listing of Print industry job outcomes for the Government Apprenticeship Priority List, submissions from all stakeholders are invited. The re-listing included only 2 ANZSCO 'Job Outcomes' - Print Finisher and Screen Printer: clearly unsatisfactory when the scope of employment in the Printing & Graphic Arts industries is understood. Signage was missed off altogether. Make a difference! Submit your recommendations by March 1st.

The LIA and ASGA continue to work hard at getting the Government's Australian Skills Classifications updated and relevant for employment outcomes in the Printing, Signage and Graphic Arts arena. Having only 'Print Finisher' and 'Screen Printer' listed is bewildering an confusing when all of us in this $10-$15 billion industry know that employers are hungry for:

  • Digital Print operators
  • Offset press operators
  • Flexographic & Gravure Printers
  • Signage Manufacturers - Digital Print & Installation
  • Signage Manufacturers - Fabricated, Illuminated, LED and Electronic
  • Label & Packaging Converters
  • Prepress, E-Commerce & Workflow Specialists
  • Bindery & Finishing personnel
  • Print Estimating and Sales

This list is far from exhaustive and only by sending submissions by the deadline can we hope for sensible Job Outcomes to be included, that go beyong 'Print Finishing' and 'Screen Printing.' While Screen Process is a great imaging technology, it represents less than 2% of job opportunities in today's graphic arts industry.

The next update to the Australian Skills Classification, due mid-year, will include a range of both new and revised occupation profiles. For the first time, Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) is inviting feedback on the draft profiles from interested stakeholders, ahead of their publication.

To view the draft profiles and submit feedback, please visit the
JSA Consultations page.

The consultation period closes on 1 March 2023.

It's important that as many stakeholders as possible send in submissions to ensure that Government funding for skills in dire need of training for, are recognised as modern, relevant and economically positive.
