Sydney turned on a spectacular Autumn sunny day for the opening of Visual Impact at Sydney showgrounds, Olympic Park. Starting with an Aboriginal smoking ceremony of welcome and cleansing, higher than expected crowds were there from the moment the doors opened and the stands were abuzz with activity.

P1000435By the end of day one, it was clear that Visual Impact 2023 - Sydney's first trade show since 2019, was a roaring success with 2 days still to go.

The opening was led by Stuart McMinn, a man from the Dharug and Gubbi Gubbi Nationals, and has been professionally performing cultural dance and cultural education for more than 17 years.

A large crowd of exhibitors, organisers, media and students assembled outside before the doors officially opened and were invited to 'walk through the smoke' and 'be cleansed'. Energised by this, visitors, including a contingent from Parramatta High School entered the show and soon many stands were fully engaged in demonstrations and conversations.

The first of the Photo & Fine Art workshops put on by Kayell was fully booked and ASGA seminars, including a Signage Round Table, were well attended too.

All in all, a very successful day one. With two days left to go it looks like Visual Impact 2023 will get better and better.
