ASGA president Mick Harrold and other industry leaders will meet with federal government officials to call for the immediate reinstatement of Sign & Graphics qualifications to the federal government’s Skills Priority List.

"Since the Sign & Graphics qualifications were quietly dropped from the Federal Government's Skills Priority List earlier this year, ASGA has been working behind the scenes to have the qualifications reinstated and has meetings scheduled with advisors coming up in June,” ASGA told members in its monthly newsletter.
“Mick Harrold, ASGA president, together with other industry representatives, will meet with advisors to the Hon Brendan O'Connor, Minister for Skills & Training, and the Hon Tony Burke, Minister for Industrial Relations. We will be presenting them with information about the sector, and a submission detailing why training for our industry is an absolute priority.
“These meetings complement other work with our training partners and fellow industry associations who are supporting the initiative.”

Meanwhile, ASGA has welcomed new measures to support training that were included in the recent Federal Budget.
“There has been a lot of commentary about the Federal Budget and its impact on business, but there were some interesting commitments which may benefit our industry. These include new measures to support training, including:
- $3.7 billion to boost the National Skills Agreement and ensure better access to Vocational Education & Training (VET). This is to be negotiated with the stated and commence in July next year.
- A new support model to improve workforce diversity, retention and completion rates while engaging women in traditionally male-dominated apprenticeships, and
- A doubling of the number of women in apprentice and trainee roles on government construction projects and a tripling of trade apprenticeships for women by 2030.
"As a traditionally male-dominated industry, this provides some exciting opportunities, and ASGA is working with our training and careers partners to see how we - and you - can leverage this in the future.
“Aside from these announcements, other measures for business included the extension of the Instant Asset Write-off for assets up to $20K for small businesses (with an aggregated turnover of <$10M), the small business energy incentive, the $3 billion Energy Bill Relief Fund and new cyber security support measures.”
