Kingman Signs has transformed the navigation experience at Karrakatta Cemetery with digital totems and a name search feature that helps users find the exact location of loved ones.
The Perth signage company, awarded the digital signage contract for Perth Karrakatta Cemetery in 2022, had delivered "an extraordinary digital wayfinding solution that revolutionises the cemetery navigation experience," it said.
“This first-of-its-kind project in Western Australia combines state-of-the-art signage design and fabrication with intelligent interactive wayfinding content, providing visitors with a seamless and stress-free navigation experience.
“Navigating through cemeteries can be challenging, but Kingman’s digital totems offer a game-changing solution. These interactive totems feature integrated maps and search systems, empowering visitors to effortlessly locate their desired destinations without the frustration of wandering through graves and memorials. Designed and fabricated in-house, each site boasts three external totems, customised with location-specific wayfinding content.”
With integration to the Cemeteries Board’s data system, the digital screens display up-to-date information including ‘Today’s’ funeral listings, with real-time data at each site. A name search feature allows users to retrieve the exact location of their loved ones, providing a map and a convenient QR code linked to Google Maps for easy navigation.
Features:
Name search functionality with precise location and QR code for Google Maps integration.
Current event listings, such as burials, featuring time, location, and maps.
Highlighted Places of Interest within walking distance, including Memorial Gardens, Aboriginal Keeping Place, and Jewish Prayer Hall.
Interactive maps indicating the visitor’s location, desired route, and QR code scanning for smartphone navigation via Google Maps.
Kingman Signs closely collaborated with Perth Cemeteries’ project manager Brad Smith to ensure the solution addressed public needs. “This collaborative effort resulted in a meticulously designed and personalised interface,” said Kingman. “The captivating animation of luminous butterflies gracefully gliding through a sea of vibrant spherical lights represents the souls, harmonising with Perth Cemeteries Board’s brand guidelines. The colour scheme, predominantly blue with butterfly symbols, exudes tranquility, while the primary additional colour, black, underscores the theme of respect.
"Kingman also collaborated with Perth Branding and Marketing developers to implement CakePHP / API and an API management platform incorporating API calls and additional functionality. This implementation was crucial to ensure the best user experience and filtration of data."
