Shae Goom, owner of Wise Studios (formerly Signwise), has been voted president of the New Zealand Sign & Display Association (NZSDA) for a two-year term. He succeeds former president Andy Lowe, who stepped down after two years but remains on the board.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of President,” Goom told UK website Eye on Display.
“It is a great honour to be appointed to this prestigious position. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to advancing industry standards and fostering collaboration within the sign and display community. Having served as the Vice President of the NZSDA, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the association into a future of innovation and excellence. Throughout my journey at Wise Studios, I have witnessed the transformative power of craftsmanship, creativity, and client satisfaction in our industry.”
Goom said one of his priorities as president will be to address the skills shortage through the association’s Signee program.
“I would like to put more focus on apprenticeships through our entry-level training programme, Signee. With a vision to raise industry standards, future-proof our profession, and empower our workforce, Signee has been developed to meet the evolving needs and demands of the industry.
“Signee Training is designed to address the skills shortage in the sign and display industry by attracting and retaining more talented individuals. Our courses offer comprehensive training that leads to entry-level employment or an apprenticeship in sign-making. We are committed to providing further training opportunities for our current members, ensuring ongoing professional development and growth.”
In other moves announced after the association’s recent Executive Annual Meeting and AGM, Logan Sutton of Future Grafix was named Vice President; Andy Lowe becomes Immediate Past President and Leanne Freeman remains at Advisory; and Paul Walters resigned from the board after a 10 year commitment.
“Therefore on our board is, Shae Goom, Logan Sutton, Leanne Freeman and Andy Lowe,” said the NZSDA. “We are still looking for nominations for more board members, in particular those that want to give back to the industry, have the time to make their mark, and lead change through the roles of the board. Get in touch with us if you are interested in finding out more about how the board is structured and run.”
