The Australian Sign & Graphics Association says new figures show completions in Certificate III Signs and Graphics study have more than tripled over the past five years, with a boost in the number of young women enrolling for the course.
“You've heard a lot about the ASGA / Visual Connections Education Program recently, but is the initiative actually working to increase apprentice numbers?” ASGA asks in its monthly newsletter. “The answer is yes, with figures released recently showing that enrolments and completions have almost tripled over the past five years.
“The initiative, set up by ASGA and Visual Connections as the ‘Work Inspiration Program’ in 2013, is designed to interest secondary students in the sign, print and display sector and connect them with training and career opportunities.
“Enrolments in the CPC30216 – Certificate III in Signs and Graphics across Australia jumped from 240 to 625 over the five years to 2021. Completions more than tripled, from just 30 in 2017, to 115 in 2021. Importantly, the initiative has also seen an increase the number of young women enrolling in courses.
“The program has been reinvigorated in 2023 after a pandemic hiatus, with more than 100 students already registering their interest in commencing apprenticeships in 2024. That number is expected to increase as Industry Taster Days are conducted later this year."
