Chamton, based in Melbourne's Brunswick, is a leading distributor of art prints and framing industry mouldings, servicing these industries for 40 years, come 2025. By choosing the Mutoh ValueJet 1638UH hybrid printer from Total Image Supplies, Chamton has increased its offering capacity and also profits.
Chamton is a wholesale picture frame supplier and manufacturer of mouldings, mat board and printed art stock. The company also prints and supplies custom prints on canvas, home décor and fine art prints into the picture framing, décor and e-store markets.
Established in 1985 and based in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, Chamton, like many businesses, faced challenges with increased running costs and consumable price rises for its aging printing technology. The company reached out to the team at Total Image Supplies in nearby Fairfield as they begun searching for better solutions.
With a diverse product range of stocks including foam-core, acrylic, glass, and canvas, Chamton operator Tony Angelidis researched various printer brands and printing technologies, with the guidance of Total Image Supplies, concluding that the Mutoh hybrid UV 1638UH would be the ideal solution to deliver flexibility and productivity.
Angelidis says: “I love the ability of having a hybrid printer that can print onto both flexible and rigid media, as I produce high volumes on canvas and foamboard prints for the décor market.”
Servicing the home décor markets with fine art prints and custom canvas prints Tony says that, since acquiring the Mutoh hybrid UV, he has: "... seen improved quality, with no cracking on canvas, easy for production to wrap and no waiting for ink to dry.”
He adds: “The Mutoh UV printer was very well priced against other comparable offerings and my trusted relationship with Tyson Buechler at Total Image was a major factor. Total Image Supplies have made the change-over to new technology easy from day one, with installation, training, support, profiling and on-going support.”
Chamton has experienced business growth with increased product offering capacity to new and existing customers: “The new Mutoh 1638UH has improved efficiency, quality and running costs. Overall, I have been very surprised, impressed and happy with the four-Colour print quality, it’s been overwhelming accepted by my customers who now, in most cases prefer the UV prints.”
The Mutoh VJ-1638UH Mark II is a 1625mm (64") hybrid UV-LED-curing inkjet printer for both flexibe roll materials and rigid boards up to 15mm thick. Flexible inks are Greenguard Gold certified and require no fume extraction. It features dual 1400dpi piezo drop-on-demand printheads and is highly energy-efficient - consuming less than 770 Watts during printing, with zero warm-up time.
