Océ-Australia is pleased to welcome on board Andy McCourt. As a well known and experienced graphic arts professional, Andy will help Océ get closer to the graphic arts industry.
This is another important investment in getting the right people on board for Océ in the graphic arts market, fuelled by the industry’s demand and growth in digital high speed and full colour web fed solutions.
McCourt says “ I have always enjoyed being near the sharp end of change in our industry and being involved in the evolution of print from a mostly analogue industrial process into a new dynamic and IT-driven digital communications medium. What I saw from Océ at the recent Drupa exhibition – especially the JetStream family, ColorStream 10000 and VarioStream 9000 configurations with Prisma workflows – convinced me that this company is on the right track, with the right culture and the right products to successfully address the next level of change. Newspapers, books, magazines, catalogues and flyers can be printed digitally, successfully and with new profit opportunities today, not tomorrow or next year.
It’s not about replacing offset; it’s about keeping printed communications fresh and relevant in the 21st century. No other country’s printing industry adapts to change as rapidly as Australia’s – we were the first to use process colour in newspapers, the first to use colour action sports photography, we had more digital colour presses here by 1999 than many countries with treble our population, the first major CTP in a heatset web environment and so on.
Digital colour printing took a giant leap at Drupa 2008, from a low to mid-volume offering, to one where 2,700 A4 full colour pages a minute and speeds of 200 metres an hour are possible – and Océ is the company that brought it to the world. Its mission-critical culture founded in the transactional and promotional printing markets, will translate well into the ultra-demanding world of newspaper and magazine publishing. It already has with digital mono book production.
