One of the USA’s most prestigious printers, Sandy Alexander, is the latest customer for Screen’s new Truepress JET560HDX digital web press and SC2 inks. Now in its sixth decade, Sandy Alexander services the printing needs of Fortune 500 companies who demand the highest quality colour and personalisation.

SCREEN Americas worked on a special solutions strategy for Sandy Alexander, a full-service printer headquartered in New Jersey and with four other sites, who needed to meet its customers’ increasing demands for greater personalization. Already equipped with a wide range of conventional and digital technologies, Sandy Alexander needed to expand its digital capabilities to include continuous roll-fed inkjet solutions that could produce complex variable print jobs quickly.SanyAlexander Orlando bldgSandy Alexander Print's Orlando USA site

It was at drupa 2024 where the team at Sandy Alexander was introduced to the Truepress JET 560HDX, Screen’s latest development in high-speed inkjet technology. Featuring new SC2 inks with an enhanced colour gamut, 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution, innovative drying system, and the ability to accommodate roll-fed coated and uncoated paper up to 260gsm and 560mm wide, the Truepress JET 560HDX is changing the game for printers looking to achieve complex personalization in production, at up to 150 metres per minute.

Local Screen Managing Director Peter Scott comments: “The Sandy Alexander order is SCREEN PeterScott 2023 portrait3Peter Scott, Screen GP Australiaindeed a feather in Screen’s cap and follows on from four orders from Admail West, California, Graphic Village, Ohio, Art & Negative and Mosaic, both of Maryland all scheduled for installation in 2024. ANZ availability is expected during first quarter of 2025 but demonstrations can take place at one of our Inkjet Excellence Centres in Chicago, Tokyo or Amsterdam. I’ve rarely seen a new press product attract such advance interest – the JET560HDX definitely has the ‘Wow!’ factor as shown at drupa in June. Visitors could not believe the results coming off the press were inkjet!”

“Spectacular” colour

“The quality of what I saw at drupa was spectacular,” said Mark Ritter, President of Sandy Alexander’s southern region. “The new Screen technology delivered exceptional print quality that rivalled litho’s and Screen’s workflow and prepress capabilities worked well to produce high-end pieces at the show.” Screen TPJ560HDX printsampleThe 560HDX colour that so impressed Sandy Alexander at drupa

Sandy Alexander’s leaders did their due diligence and spent time investigating multiple inkjet web solutions. They eventually turned to Screen Americas for a solution to meet their customers’ ongoing requests for smaller, yet highly personalized runs with 2-sided variable capabilities as well as to support the company’s imminent needs.

“When making the decision to go with the Screen press, we took into account more than just the machine; we considered the entire organization,” said Chairman of the Board Mike Graff. “Everything from research, testing and service was critical to our decision-making process. This is a long-term commitment for both Sandy Alexander and Screen; it represents everything that Sandy Alexander stands for: quality, reliability and innovation.”

While preparing to provide a seamless transition to the Truepress JET 560HDX, Screen Americas worked with Sandy Alexander to take care of its customers’ immediate requests during the peak seasons of political campaigns as well as the routine fourth quarter demands from their clients in healthcare, retail and other markets.

‘Perfect solution’

“Screen came up with the perfect solution for us,” said Betsy Davis, Sandy Alexander’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “We could not satisfy our customers’ current demands without Screen. The ability to achieve personalization at scale was not possible with our current digital sheetfed and inline platform. Screen has allowed us to produce fully personalized jobs, whether they’re for our healthcare and financial customers who need variable transactional work or for our retail customers looking to take that leap into more personalized catalogues and self-mailers.”

Founded in 1963, Sandy Alexander offers a wide range of print services to the architectural, automotive, beauty, dining, healthcare, higher education, life sciences, retail and travel industries. It also has customers requesting print jobs for political campaigns—an imminent need during the summer months of a presidential election year; and one that could not be met with Sandy Alexander’s existing platform.

The Truepress JET560HDX will reside in the company’s 4,200-square-metre facility in Orlando, Florida - one of five facilities in the United States operated by Sandy Alexander. The installation is expected to be completed by the November US holidays.
