Such was the occasion on the evening of the 30th October, halfway through the VIIE show, when Roland DG hosted several hundred dignatories from our local industry in addition to some overseas repesentatives of Roland DG to celebrate our local company's 20th anniversary. All were treated to a luxury dinner cruise around Sydney Harbour.
The Starship Sydney must be the poshest of all the cruise ships that are seen in our glorious harbour.
With a no expense spared feeling, guests were initially treated to cocktails and canopes on the upper deck before being ushered to the deck below where a sumptious banquet was being prepared.
John Wall, sales and marketing manager at Roland DG took the role of Master of Ceremonies and after formerly welcoming the guests introduced Marc Margetts, the newly appointed CEO of Roland DG Australia and New Zealand to take the podium.
Marc thanked his guests for the support that has contributed so hugely to the local company's success and then introduced his international guests. He then handed over to Mr Tomiaka, president of the Roland DG organisation in Japan who spoke with amazingly good English on the international success of the company as a whole and in particular on the success of the Australian and New Zealand companies.
Then came John Egan's turn and it was particularly interesting to hear how the local company came into being 20 years ago as a spin off from the Roland music organisation. It was also delightful to hear how the Japanese team came up with an English sounding name for the company. Sir Roland was a knight in the same kilter as Sir Gallahad and this name obviously appealed to the Japanese and history now records Roland DG as a highly respected institution in the international digital imaging industry.
After the speeches and the sumptious dinner, the evening moved into the music and dancing stage. For those that wanted to, the sights of Sydney Harbour on a moonlit night were there for all to see from the top deck.
Each guest had a bottle of wine to take home with the label including the individual's name. A very nice finish to a grand evening.
