In 2007, ColourProcess was the first company to introduce PSO into the Australian marketplace, establishing a standard for offset printing.

ColourProcess has now created PSD (Process Standard Digital), the new benchmark for digital printers, they say.

Yves Roussange recognised that although improvements in digital technology have improved the colour depth and quality of digital printing, a significant ‘quality gap’ existed between digital and offset printers due to the lack of standardisation.

PSD-Check software will allow digital printers to match the quality of offset printing though a process of evaluation and quality control based on the ISO 12647-2 and ISO 12647-7 standard. Print shops will be able to increase efficiency and cut costs by sharing jobs between their digital and offset printers.

PSD-Check is the first step of implementation and quality control based on the future digital certification. The next ISO-12647 standard will be for digital printing technology and could be released in the next 3 years, at the end of 2012.
