Victorian companies have just under a fortnight to submit their entries for the Victorian Printing Industry Craftsmanship Awards (PICA Victoria) and organisers have released some hot tips prior to the race, hinting that there are excellent opportunities to win, particularly in some categories – a number of which will appeal particularly to Wide Format Online readers.
In the lead up to the State’s great race, PICA Victoria Chairman Trevor Hone has encouraged those involved in the production of any outstanding print job between 1 September 2010 and 26 August 2011, to enter without delay.
“As with any competition, you have to be in it to win it,” Hone said this week, “and with only a fortnight to go, now is the time to line up at the starting gate, not just to compete with the best in the field of print in Victoria, but also to compete on the national stage next year when the National Print Awards are presented.”
Those fond of a punt, however, will also be familiar with the concept of odds...and Hone says there’s no denying the odds of winning are significantly higher in some categories, due to the lower number of entries received to date.
“You wouldn’t bet on a race without looking at the form guide, and while a great print job of any kind will always be a favourite to win, an outsider – or a great performer in a smaller field – can be a great way to go,” Hone told us this week.
“For your readers, it would be well worth looking at Categories 28 and 29, for digital inkjet and digital wide-format printing, Category 2 for commercial posters, showcards, card constructions and mobiles, and perhaps for some, also the packaging and label categories – 17 through 20.”
“In addition, those who have been working hard on reducing their environmental impact should seriously consider putting themselves up for the Sustainable Green Print Environmental Award,” he added.
Those who want to take advantage of this opportunity do not have long, however – entries must be received at Printing Industries in Mulgrave by close of business on Friday, 26 August 2011.
