Spice Digital Imaging is the first Australian company to install the new super-wide HP Designjet L28500.
The new machine complements the company’s two existing HP Designjet L25500 printers.

Managing Director Andy Hannington says the installation of a third HP Latex Ink printer builds on the company’s success with the HP Latex Ink platform delivering a wider format that will enable Spice Digital Imaging to expand its solvent-free offer.

“We stopped using solvent printers two years ago when we put in our first HP Designjet Latex Ink printer,” says Hannington. “When we decided we needed a wider format printer we didn’t hesitate to install the new HP Designjet L28500.”

So confident in the HP Latex Ink platform, Hannington ordered the printer through HP Channel Partner Artref, sight unseen. “These printers tick all the boxes from an environmental perspective, are cost effective to operate and produce high quality results. We didn’t need to see the printer because we know how good the HP Latex Ink technology is. Our relationship with Artref also influenced our decision to purchase this printer because of the high level of service and support they provide”.

Located in Osborne Park, minutes from Perth’s CBD, Spice Digital Imaging opened for business in 2003, but Hannington has been involved in the large format printing industry since 1996. The company predominantly services the retail sector working with interior designers and architects on shop fit outs. It also produces customised wallpapers, display systems, POS products and a large range of general signage for both indoor and outdoor applications.

The 2.64m super-wide HP Designjet L28500 with HP Latex Ink was released in November 2011. Hannington says this format fills the gap between the 1.6m HP Designjet L25500 printers and an older 2.1m flatbed machine, which has been decommissioned.
The HP Designjet L28500 was installed at the end of February and Hannington says, “We’ve been working it hard. At the moment we are printing a large volume of PVC banner material, but our intention is to also use the printer to expand our textiles range and to undertake many other projects that we can now do due to the wider format”.

On the environmental benefits of the HP Latex Ink platform, Hannington says the fact that the HP PVC-free wallpaper printed with HP Latex Inks is GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certified, is a definite benefit to his customers. “We work with a number of interior designers and architects and these clients are more frequently asking about the provenance and environmental credentials of materials used in their jobs. Having chosen the HP Latex Ink platform we can demonstrate we are a step ahead and leading by example. It is a very trustworthy solution that is winning us business and has also improved our own working environment,” he concludes.
