There is a new but familiar face on the Screen stand at drupa. Bruce Wright, whose career covers the introduction of Postscript into the graphic arts, up to the latest prepress and press developments, has joined Dainippon Screen Australia as Northern Region Sales Manager. Previously with Heidelberg, Wright was also the name behind the pioneering Australian prepress developer Wright Technologies in the 1980s and 90s. Wright Technologies achieved global success by being amongst the first companies to enable high-end scanners to output to Postscript film

imagesetters, opening up proprietary language prepress to the world of DTP. A fully-featured page assembly system, the Wright Jupiter, followed and this was used extensively in Australia, North America and Europe.
The appointment to Screen Australia comes after more than a decade with Heidelberg. The vacancy became available following Peter Scott’s elevation to Managing Director of Screen Australia.
“It’s great to have someone of Bruce’s experience and knowledge join us,” says Scott, “he is very well known throughout the Australian industry and will be a tremendous source of help and advice to our customers. At a time when Screen is launching exciting new digital printing and workflow products here at drupa, Bruce will find even more avenues to apply his technical knowledge and commercial skills with Screen.”
Wright too is relishing the challenge, saying “I have known Screen for many years and have always held their products in the highest regard. They are the sole surviving ‘scanner-prepress’ based big name company and I believe this is because of reputation, commitment to customers and innovative new directions. I’m delighted to be on-board and, with all the new product announcements here at drupa, there is so much to absorb. I look forward to sharing the acquired knowledge with customers, starting as soon as I return.”
