DES will be showing off a brand new product at Pacprint, the HiPak Kinetic from Autobox in the UK. The HiPak Kinetic is a fully automated short run box maker that would seem to be the perfect partner for those businesses running UV printers, either of the hybrid or dedicated flatbed type.
DES will be printing corrugated cardboard at the show on their EFI machines and showing the versatility of the HiPak Kinetic in converting those sheets into boxes.
Neil Southerington, ex Graffica, has been appointed to DES’s growing list of specialist staff to show the potential wide format printers have in the short run packaging market, utilising the HiPak Kinetic.
Neil told Wide Format Online that many European printers have grasped this opportunity and he fully expects Aussie and Kiwi printers to follow suit, if they are not already doing so.
The beauty for the wide format printer is that they can offer full colour printing, especially with white being laid down first on packaging whereas traditionally boxes are printed in only one or two colours.
The HiPak can take sheets up to 2.6 metres wide by 4 metres deep and is very comfortable working with plastic Corflute or corrugated board. He said the equipment can cut media as thin as 1 1/2 mm thick.
For smaller packages, tiling of individual boxes can easily be done on the automated set up and he assured us that little waste, if any, should result.
The operator requires no skills and set up can be done in 60 seconds or less and is done purely on screen.
DES want’s to emphasise the opportunity that short to medium run packaging has to offer the wide format printers and especially with the burgeoning online retail sales that is happening, the market will surely grow.
