Screen GP Australia’s Managing Director Peter Scott and Peter Townsend, Technical Sales, are gearing up to attend drupa 2016 from May 31st to the end of the show. “Australia and New Zealand is well represented at drupa with both direct and dealer representation on several stands.

Fujifilm, Screen’s thermal CtP partner, will have no fewer than six ANZ representatives on their stand, while other personnel from Jet Technologies (labels), Graphic Art Mart (wide format) and WRH Global (CtP) will be present.”
He adds: “Under the Screen GP i3 (integrated imaging for innovation) concept, we will be introducing several innovations to software, hardware and services. Workflow is becoming the backbone of print businesses and EQUIOS has undergone a renaissance to accommodate online and multi-output demands. EQUIOS ART is a new suite of technologies that help to ensure optimal quality standards across different Screen GP graphic arts products, such as our proprietary RIP, image processing and color management systems, EQUIOS UX provides a broad range of functionality across the entire production process from Web2Print input to printing and finally postpress. The ‘internet of things’ is a huge focus for Screen under GPi3.”
Truepress Jet L350UV upgrades
With brand owners becoming increasingly concerned about the prevention of counterfeiting and maintenance of supply chain traceability, Screen GP is introducing a security label and traceability solution that combines EQUIOS and the Truepress Jet L350UV at drupa. This solution also incorporates an MIS to significantly enhance automation from Web-based order placement right through to the creation of print data for label production. At drupa, both inline and offline converting/finishing will be demonstrated with Screen’s JetConverter system.
Spot colours, so important with label production, are also receiving attention in EQUIOS ART.
Flatbed UV gets faster
Screen GP’s success with the Truepress Jet W3200UV in the ANZ region has resulted in installation now in double-figures. Visitors to the company’s drupa stand will be able to see the new W3200 MkII, capable of up to 184 sqm/hr and with integrated roll feed.
According to Scott: “The W3200UVII also features a continuous printing function developed to enable high-speed processing of large volume jobs while maintaining uniformly excellent quality. Even with high volume work of varying types, this function allows nonstop printing to meet the tightest deadlines. It supports both flat and roll media to satisfy the needs of a wider range of users and answer market requirements for ever greater productivity. We already have users running this machine two and occasionally three shifts a day,” he says.

CtP faster but uses less energy
Computer-to-Plate may be a maturing technology but Screen is dedicated to making CtP more efficient and environmentally responsible. On the drupa stand will be the new PlateRite PT-R4600Z B2, 4-up, platesetter which, although using less energy, delivers a 13% increase in laser power by the use of fiber laser diodes. This is particularly useful for imaging processless thermal plates. The ‘Z’ model on show is capable of 33 B2 plates per hour.
Also confirming Screen’s commitment to prepress will be a new state-of-the-art CtP device that will be revealed at drupa itself. Both devices on show at drupa feature energy-saving, which can be as high as 83% when idling.
Faster high volume inkjet web
The latest version of the Truepress Jet520HD, developed specifically for commercial printing, will also be on show. Up from 120 to 150 meters per minute as an option the new model also meets a wider variety of printing requirements, doubling the current supported page length for a job to a maximum of 1.37 metres (54").
The drupa demonstrations will feature variable product catalogs and book production that links the Truepress Jet520HD to a perfect binding line using different page sizes and counts.
Service to be Trusted
Screen’s  TRUST network now also supports EQUIOS and EQUIOS online, enabling a precise understanding of the operational status of any installed Screen GP products from both a device and workflow perspective. This expanded format represents the fastest and most advanced version of the service offered so far.
Predictive detection enabled by TRUST allows Screen GP's specialist personnel to keep clients informed of any potential problems with their system using a truly interactive approach. If field service does become necessary, Screen GP engineers are able to decide the most suitable course of action and make appropriate preparations based on their in-depth understanding of the situation. This ensures downtime is reduced to an absolute minimum.
Screen beyond print
Screen will also show non-printing industry products at drupa, such as a high-speed 3D cell scanner that incorporates existing image processing technologies. The scanner is able to rapidly measure and analyze the multiplication and morphological changes of cells without the use of an inspection reagent. It is expected to make a significant contribution to research into the discovery of new cancer drugs and advances in regenerative medicine.
Printed electronics is another area where Screen leads the world.
Merging electronic technologies with advanced printing processes allows ultrafine imaging at a level of detail that was extremely challenging with previous methods. The resulting processes enable the printing of electronic patterns directly onto substrates to create circuits. Expectations are high for the development of new applications such as electronic paper and high-definition touch panels as well as microsensors.
Image inspection technologies can also be applied at a wide variety of product manufacturing sites, such as auto part factories. Screen has already successfully commercialized a number of inspection and measurement devices that play critical roles in quality control systems. These components are particularly difficult to assess using quantitative methods and inspections previously relied on basic visual checks. Prevention of forgeries and below-par parts is thus made easier.
“We are looking forward to an outstanding drupa,” says Scott “and I personally welcome all ANZ visitors to the stand. Our head office has established a dedicated drupa website where visitors can register, here: https://sp.Screen-gp.com/drupa/ .”
