The results of FESPA’s Wide Survey, the proprietary pan-European research into the digital wide-format printing marketplace, conducted in association with InfoTrends, have now been published in full and are commercially available now.

Members of FESPA’s national associations are entitled to receive a copy of the survey results free-of-charge. The data is available to non-member companies and industry suppliers for a fee of €1500 and can be obtained from FESPA.

Conducted by leading worldwide graphic arts industry research and consulting firm InfoTrends, the web-based research comprises data from 400 respondents in over 66 countries across six continents. The overall aim of FESPA’s research was to determine the state of the wide format graphics market in Europe and to try to measure the outlook for businesses in the sector on a number of levels. Measuring the digital penetration into the screen printing market segments, identifying the leading technologies in these markets, providing information on purchasing plans and printing volumes, the research gives valuable perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing the European screen and digital wide format market.

Marcus Timson, Corporate Communications Director, FESPA comments: “As an association, it’s vital for us to have our own, robust data to better understand the digital marketplace and in turn the concerns and motivations of the FESPA community.  FESPA’s aim is to support members and the wider global imaging community and provide them with access to high quality information.  The Wide Survey research will help us devise and deliver educational and knowledge-sharing initiatives that are genuinely beneficial to today’s printers and help enable them to plan successful business strategies for the future.

Some key highlights of the InfoTrends research include the following:

·          Digital makes up €13.17 billion of the total European market value of €25.6 billion

·          The digital market is poised to grow 7.5 per cent annually

·          Companies that own digital equipment turn over on average twice as much as those that do not

·          Less than 50 per cent of respondents have digital wide format printing in their shops suggesting a significant opportunity for wide format digital equipment growth

·          Over half (57%) of those survey indicated that they plan to invest in a new wide format printer in the next 12 months

Marcus Timson will hold an interactive Question & Answer session on the Wide Survey at FESPA Digital Printing Europe 2008 Geneva (1st – 3rd April), from 15:30h – 16:00h as part of the Showcase Theatre line-up on 2nd April. The session will give visitors the opportunity to discuss key areas of business development in the digital printing industry, principal commercial and technological concerns, main growth applications, investment in digital output and workflow technology and the future of the industry.
