Erebus Penrite Racing unveiled a new limited edition livery at Sunday's Bathurst 1000 for its two Holden Commodores - driven by defending champions David Reynolds and Luke Youlden, as well as rookie pairing Anton De Pasquale and Will Brown. Reynolds led for most of the race but suffered fatigue and cramping that allowed eventual winner Craig Lowndes to overtake him - but the TV cameras still loved the beautifully wrapped Erebus Penrite machine!
The team's regular satin finish was replaced with PPG's stunning gloss black and paired with Metamark's chrome highlights,” said Penrite Oil's corporate partnerships manager, Jarrod Harding. "Bathurst is such a fantastic event with a really passionate crowd, so it was great to arrive with a fresh new look."
The striking gold was a standout on Reynolds' Holden (above, left), while the familiar scheme which has become synonymous with the Erebus Penrite liveries was reversed on De Pasquale's car. The gold and red chrome was achieved with Metamark MI-BS 5 year Chrome and HP Latex.
"I'm calling it the golden child," Reynolds said in the lead up to the race. "It's always special to have a new livery for the biggest race of the year, the car looks great and is sure to turn heads. Last year's result was absolutely fantastic, and we head into this weekend more confident that we can deliver a good result."
Reynolds led for most of Sunday's event but suffered cramping and fatigue that forced him into a pitstop and allowed eventual winner Craig Lowndes to take the lead on lap 135 of the 161-lap race.
Reynolds said he had felt out of sorts all day. "Even in the first 15 laps I wasn't mentally there,” he told Fox Sports. “I was just lost. My body gave up after that. I'm just so disappointed for everyone. We were the best car all weekend. I just can't believe it.”
The Reynolds/Youlden team finished up 13th. The second Erebus Commodore of de Pasquale and Brown crashed late in the race while pressing for a top-10 finish.
Reynolds produced an upset victory last year when he and Youlden combined to win on a rain-soaked Mount Panorama circuit.
Both team entries will be running in the upcoming Auckland SuperSprint and Newcastle 500.
