Friday night saw the Roland DG folks let their hair down a little with around 150 invited guests at Sydney’s swanky Pier One function centre.

Right next to the Harbour Bridge, where Prince Harry had raised the Invictus games flag only hours earlier, the Roland DG team recollected three decades of success, starting in 1988 when John Egan (pictured cutting the cake) registered an offshoot of Roland Music to market the CAMM-1 PNC-100 vinyl cutter. Interestingly, Roland’s involvement with Sign and Display equipment came out of its music synthesizer business – the original pen plotters were used to plot sound-wave charts. Then the 80s CAD/CAM revolution started, and Roland found it already had the precision technology to enter into it.
The plotter/cutter/milling side of the business took off rapidly with several ‘world firsts’ including the CAMMjet CJ-60 in 1996 – the world’s first wide format inkjet printer/cutter. The years since then have seem many innovations including mild-solvent SolJet printers which moved the company into outdoor signage and vehicle wraps.

The guests came from all over Australasia, from Perth to Auckland and included customers, dealers, partner organisations, and consumable suppliers across the spectrum of Roland DG’s applications. A special guest was Eli Keersmaekers, Executive Officer of global sales and marketing for Roland DG, based between Europe and Japan.
And what would a birthday anniversary be without a cake?
Congratulations to Roland DG and we look forward to a 40th, 50thand beyond!
