Ricoh is having a crack at HP's hegenomy of Latex, unveiling two new roll-to-roll latex wide format printers designed for faster short run production, running with Ricoh's own printheads and inks; plus a new LED-UV flatbed device with decor in mind.

The RICOH Pro L5130 and L5160 latex machines “deliver impressive uptime and segment-leading print speeds” up to 473.6 square feet/hr, with curing technology that leaves output ready for finishing as soon as it comes off the printer.
“From hospitality to hospitals, many industries are starting to more fully embrace wide format,” said John Fulena, vice president, Commercial & Industrial Printing Business Group, Ricoh USA. “When we designed the Ricoh Pro L5130/L5160 series, we were engineering a platform specifically to equip printers to reliably excel at meeting those diverse needs. Through the combination of Ricoh inks, Ricoh printheads and Ricoh design, these devices empower users to deliver the kinds of applications their customers are looking for – and do it better and faster than the competition.”
In addition to speeds of up to 473.6 ft2/hr in outdoor standard mode and 270 ft2/hr in indoor standard mode, the series produces applications up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi with high reliability due to the devices’ industrial-grade Ricoh printheads.
With CMYK and CMYK plus white options available, high ink opacity and adhesion enable the production of crisp, clear prints for a variety of applications on substrates that range from wall coverings to window graphics to backlit day/night signage.
Automated nozzle drop detection helps ensure consistent image quality, reliability and continuous production. Users can monitor the device and job status by remotely logging into the Web Image Monitor or checking the attention light on the device, further aiding uptime and responsiveness.
The Ricoh Pro T7210 |
The new wide-format flatbed Ricoh Pro T7210 – “designed to bring low-maintenance reliability and ease-of-use to the decorative-printing market” - enables shorter runs on popular décor substrates, including tile, countertops and flooring
“This newest portfolio addition is the culmination of decades of Ricoh’s commitment to innovation and to building solutions and offerings that meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Fulena.
“The business model for décor printing is evolving with increased demand for shorter runs and faster delivery times for custom and ‘small-batch’ wall coverings, flooring, furniture and tile. The T7210 gives printers the ability to do all of that, and it makes doing it easy, and effective. Whether a manufacturer is new to the décor market or an industry veteran looking for a low-maintenance, high- quality flatbed to grow revenues, the T7210 is a great fit.”
The T7210 supports substrates up to 4.3 inches thick with a print size of 6.9 feet by 10.5 feet. That large print area allows users to print on one four-foot- by-eight-foot board or a variety of pre-cut pieces. The T7210 prints at speeds of 50 m2/hour, or 538.2 ft2/hour, during standard operation. Ricoh’s high-viscosity UV ink and its patented piezoelectric printheads help produce “eye-catching, unique applications for long stretches between printhead replacement.”
There’s no word yet from Ricoh Australia about when the new printers will be available on the local market.
