The NZ Sign and Display Association (NZSDA) has released details of its new training initiative Signee – Education to Employment that aims to attract high school students into the signage industry.

The program is scheduled to get underway next year in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, with 11-week courses planned to begin in April and July 2019.

The NZSDA is appealing to Master Sign Makers and NZSDA members to support the innovative program by providing Signees with work experience and on-site assessment workshops.

“If you are a member of the NZSDA and are interested in being involved in the education of newcomers to help future proof our industry, we would appreciate an expression of interest from you,” says NZSDA secretary & marketing co-ordinator, Melissa Coutts.

The program includes online learning modules and one week of work experience. Signees will learn about ‘the six pillars’ of the industry: Traditional, Design, Application, Fabrication, Illumination and Installation, before attending a weekend workshop for individual assessments about whether they pass the program.

"Upon passing Signee pre-vocational training, the Signee will be ready for applying for work at entry level into the sign making industry or entering into an apprenticeship," says the program guidelines.

Signee registrations open – March 2019. More details can be found here.
