O’Connor, WA – based Artcom Fabrication has become the first in WA and only the third in Australia to take delivery of a Massivit 1800 3D Printer. The monster 3D printer from the Lod, Israel manufacturer, remains the only viable 3D printer with the size, build method and versatility to be of commercial significance to the wide format signage and display sector, since its introduction at drupa in 2016.
The build size is up to 180cm high x 145cm wide x 111cm deep, using Massivit’s proprietary Dimengel photo-polymeric acrylic gel, cured by low-energy UV.
Physical delivery took place this week and will be followed by a four-week programme of set-up, training and testing including a visit by two factory-trained technicians from Israel, who will also further train Graphic Arts Mart engineers.
“I started Artcom Fabrication twenty years ago,” says owner Mark Walkden, “so we are not new kids on the block. We provide full service signage, engraving, routing and acrylic fabrication – and soon oversize 3D will add tremendously to our services. We will make whatever the market demands – prototypes, relief signs, product models, statues, channel letters, illuminated transport signs, everything. We can vinyl wrap printed graphics from our HP Latex printer, or airbrush spray and finish the finished articles.”
Michael Liveris, Graphic Arts Mart Sales Manager adds: “Since being appointed the exclusive Australian distributor for Massivit, we have fielded numerous enquiries but Mark was particularly keen to get moving, so he came over to Visual Impact in September and also visited the NSW installation at Composite Images (which we are now supporting). Mark placed his order and it arrived at his factory on Tuesday 4th December, so it’s all been a very fast-paced install.”
Artcom Fabrication currently employs fifteen personnel at its site near Fremantle, WA and services the entire state, and some national accounts also. Mark Walkden moved to Australia at age fifteen, from England’s northern town of Blackburn, Lancashire.
“All the team are excited about the new Massivit 1800 and can’t wait get 3D printing. We’ll make sure we’re well trained up first. Graphic Art Mart will carry local stock of Dimangel and spares, so we are very confident of a successful new service to offer our customers – there’s nothing else like it in WA or even SA!,” says a very happy Mark Walkden.
