“We’ve been experiencing considerable growth and we needed to increase our capacity to keep up with demand,” says Ewen Donaldson, MD of Melbourne wide format specialist Vivad, which installed its second Durst 5-metre printer in the first week of January.

The new high-speed Durst 512R LED, the first of its kind in Australia, is up and running at Vivad’s 3,500 sqm facility at Campbellfield in Melbourne’s north, alongside a Bullmer 5 metre cutter that was installed in June 2018.

“Business is going very well and and we’ve doubled our turnover in the last five years,” Donaldson told Wide Format Online.“This is our third 5-metre printer and our second 5-metre Durst. We’ve always had a good relationship with Durst and have always found their equipment very reliable.”
The Durst 512R uses LED cold cure technology for better power efficiency, and less VOC emissions. “The quality off this machine is outstanding,” says Donaldson. “Last year we installed a 5-metre wide cutter to assist in our print finishing department to help keep up with growing demand, and this year we have again increased our print capacity.
“The new 512 is much faster with higher quality and, with the cold cure LED, it’s really the next generation of large format printer. We’re growing and going from strength to strength and we knew we needed to increase our capacity. We’ll be using the new Durst to print a wide range of products, a lot of vinyl, as well as backlit fabric, posters, exhibition graphics and point of sale graphics.
“The quality of this machine means that you print high volume small format jobs along with large format jobs. We have been doing roll to roll printing for nearly 20 years now and so we already have a lot of demand from our existing client base.
“We do flatbed printing, dye sublimation printing and UV cure printing. Different ink-sets lend themselves to different applications and markets.” Vivad does all its printing and print finishing in-house.
