Peak industry body the Australian Sign & Graphics Association (ASGA) has reported a spike in membership numbers as sign businesses look for help in dealing with new building code legislation relating to ACM cladding.

“Clearly, the benefits offered, including latest updates on signage substrates and their fire rating compliance, the opportunity to get a revised SWMS [Safe Work Method Statements] and updated wage levels for employees that began from 1 July have led to an increase in members across Australia,” ASGA president Michael Punch told members in a newsletter.
After recent meetings of ASGA members across the country to address the new fire and building regulations, signage industry suppliers agreed to provide ASGA with fire-test results on substrate products.
The results are available to members on the ASGA website.
“In the members-only area, they will also find the fire test results on various signage substrates that have been provided to ASGA,” said Punch.
“Already HVG (Alucobond products) and Avery have provided test results. More we understand are to follow from other supplier companies.”
Punch said all current financial members have been forwarded the notes handed out at the various state meetings on the implications of the new Building Code for the signage industry.

The new Building Construction Code was introduced last year to limit the spread of fires caused by ACM cladding sheets on the outside of buildings. ACM, commonly used in indoor and outdoor signage applications, has a polyethylene core sandwiched between two thin aluminium panels.
