The sign industry's leading awards competition, the ASGA/FESPA 2020 HP Awards for Excellence, will finally go ahead with a Gala Dinner presentation in Brisbane on Friday, October 1, celebrating excellence in sign, display and graphics.
Winners in the event - who were announced in February - were due to receive their awards in September during the since postponed PacPrint trade show that is now scheduled for June-July 2022.
“With over 450 entries coming from 73 companies across Australia and one from a New Zealand company, the talent, expertise and craftsmanship of our sign technicians made the task of event judging a very challenging one,” Michael Punch, ASGA’s general manager said.
“There is the incredible install work of companies like Atomic Signs working hundreds of metres high in the Brisbane CBD or the Visual Exposure team working on famous large silos in Hoddle Street, Melbourne. The usual professional signage work came out of Perth, with Kingman Visual and Signs & Lines prominent.
“In the T-shirts and Garments category, we meet local legend Ken Wills from Port Macquarie that was first introduced to the Australia-first transfer technology developed by Ben Carroll when Ken was still a fruit and vegetable grower. We pick up on the massive American Express building wrap in Sydney as well as an extensive backbreaking roof wrap in Brisbane, and not to mention some classy vehicle wraps!” said Punch.
“Of course, wonderful illuminated signage has been entered – LEDs lighting up venues in Melbourne and Brisbane and a brilliant three dimensional neon jigsaw puzzle assembled piece by piece in the heart of Sydney. The work in traditional signage is also on show – CV Media & Signage Brisbane, Signco Manufacturing NSW and Sign Here Signs WA all display their unique skills.
“All this and so much more will be on show across twenty one categories with our ‘Young Stars’ – the future of our industry – receiving Awards. The People’s Choice Award will also be announced. It was great to note the number of first time companies entering – such as Insigns (Vic), Sign Here Signs (WA) , Vicon Transfers (Qld), BlackDog Ink (NSW) – and doing so well. The spread across Australia from Cairns – Inverell – Wollongong – Wangaratta – through South Australia and to Perth has made the 2020 Awards for Excellence a special experience in these challenging times!
