Internationally-renowned signage business, Signcraft, has completed the acquisition of NSW's Wholesale Signco, signaling the company's manufacturing in NSW is back. The former owner of Wholesale Signco, David Blomfield, is now working closely as Signcraft’s Consultant and shares his views.
David Blomfield(L) seals the deal with Signcrafy CEO Kim Nauntofte
Blomfield says: “In the world of high-quality signage, our team is truly unmatched. We have a passion for excellence that runs deep within us, stemming from our collective experience working for the renowned Signcraft Group in the past. In fact, 70% of our team members have been part of Signcraft at some point, gaining invaluable manufacturing expertise over a combined 100 years.
"Around eight months ago, Kim Nauntofte, Signcraft’s CEO, approached us to explore how we could assist with overflow projects. However, we soon realised that our team had much more to offer, and now Wholesale Signco has officially been acquired by Signcraft, marking an exciting new chapter for all of us.
"The synergy between Sam King and Kim, has been a game-changer for Signcraft. Kim’s unparalleled industry knowledge, coupled with his ownership of a successful signage company in the Philippines, has created a dynamic partnership that benefits both businesses. Moreover, Signcraft has forged additional partnerships in Thailand and China, expanding our reach and capabilities.
With Signcraft NSW manufacturing back in full swing, our future looks exceptionally promising. We are ready to elevate the standards of signage production and continue delivering outstanding results for our valued clients. Signcraft NSW manufacturing is back, and we can’t wait to embark on this exciting journey.”
Signcraft was started in 1971 by industry legend, Dubliner Sam King. In Ireland he was hand-painting wooden horse-drawn carts and moved to Australia at the age of 21. Starting in the local sign business alone, he soon had a staff of six and continued to grow and grow into a multi-million dollar concern, fulfilling total brand work and upgrades for big brands names all over Australia and, more recently, Asia. Signcraft had a jv going with Colorlux in the Philippines, where Kim Nauntofte was running the business. Nauntofte moved to Melbourne in 2021, right in the middle of Covid and is now permanently based in the southern capital.
As Nauntofte noted on Signcraft's 50th anniversary: "Signcraft’s future is a diverse and inclusive one that instils integrity, teamwork, agility, customer centricity and an entrepreneurial spirit. I am committed to ensuring we have the right people in the right jobs and upskill our workforce across our seven trades and supporting services. Watch this space as the Signcraft business enters a new phase of evolution and drives Sam’s legacy of performing a common task uncommonly well forward for another 50 years."
