Independent colour management specialist cielab has employed a professional photographer with 20 years experience in the imaging industry to spearhead its expansion into the high-end photographic market.
In extending its range of products and services for the photographic market, cielab is developing end-to-end solutions that include the best absolutely quality cameras, monitors, computers, software and printers.
Cielab’s managing director, Michael Rooney, says their focus on end-to-end solutions that include colour management for the whole workflow is unique.
“The norm has been for companies sell individual products, then offer a profiling service for that section — but it doesn't relate to the other devices and software in the workflow, and so that leads to a lot of blame passing. We believe we’re the first to link all of the products together into a controlled workflow from image capture, to edit and design on screen, then to both digital and commercial printing.
“Companies are so focused on ‘cheap’ these days — as in cheap quality — they seem to have forgotten it’s not what everyone wants. By ‘everyone’ here I mean not only professional photographers, but their customers too. For example, a bridal couple will quite rightly expect the very best images of their wedding, just as a glossy magazine would expect top quality.
“The equipment we sell is top quality, not cheap quality, with items at very affordable prices.”

To promote cielab’s end-to-end solutions, the company is very pleased to have obtained the services of former photojournalist Stuart Morris. Stuart worked for more than a decade with leading British newspaper “The Independent”, where he became well known for capturing “hard to get” shots, along with often being given exclusive access to headline live-music artists (rock and jazz), plus leading performing artists from the Royal Opera, Royal Ballet and Royal Shakespeare Company.
“Just some of the live music acts I’ve photographed are Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Van Morrison, Take That, Bill Cosby, Rod Stewart and Alanis Morrissette. Once in Australia, I also worked with Blue Heelers and the Melbourne Fashion Festival — plus a host of others!”
Returning to his maternal family home in Australia in 1996, Stuart began selling imaging and photographic equipment.
With his vast experience on both sides of the fence, Stuart says it’s refreshing to be part of a company that’s so focused on heightened customer service and developing the right solutions to solve customers’ problems.
“I was very pleased to join Michael and his team because I have long recognised their sincere commitment to finding solutions for customers,” Stuart says. “A lot of companies look at the bottom line first and the client second; cielab doesn’t do that.
“We really do emphasise each client’s needs first and foremost. While we obviously offer a very broad range of product, we match the product to the client in terms of their needs; not the other way round.”
