Océ has announced that it will showcase the North American debut of its first fully integrated and automated large format printing system based on Memjet technology at the SGIA Expo 2012.
Project Velocity is a product concept that combines Océ's leading expertise in productive printing and workflow for large format environments with Memjet's high-speed digital color printing technology. The SGIA Expo 2012 will convene in Las Vegas, NV, October 18-20.

The result of more than three years of joint engineering and product development between Océ and Memjet, Velocity offers game-changing digital technology that prints up to 15 times faster than conventional aqueous inkjet systems - speeds never believed possible for large format applications.

Velocity combines Océ's expertise in productive printing and workflow for large format environments with Memjet's high-speed, digital colour printing technology. Key features of Velocity include:
- Print up to 500 3'x4' prints per hour stacked and cut to size;
- Six integrated media rolls up to 42" wide - 13,650 square feet of online capacity;
- Dual tray integrated capacity stacker
Imagine printing 100 36"x48" (E-size) posters in just 12 minutes on Velocity - versus 3 hours on a traditional inkjet system. Or printing 250 E-size posters on Velocity in the 20-30 minutes it takes to set up an offset run, with the added benefit of variable content. Velocity uses the highly accurate, six-roll media input technology from the successful Océ ColorWave® 650 printer. The media input automatically switches between different rolls and media widths, providing a total capacity of 13,650 square feet feet. The Océ Double Decker Pro stacker, currently available on the Océ PlotWave® 900 printer, is used to deliver the highest possible productivity. It has a dual tray system which allows unloading and printing to occur at the same time, which effectively allows the system to print 13,650 square feet of output without interruption. The Velocity concept features an intuitive touch screen control panel from the Océ VarioPrint® 6000 series printer. It uses the Océ PowerM® controller, colour image processing and workflow components of the Océ ColorWave 650 family to further enhance and accelerate production. This concept also supports a true Adobe® PDF workflow.
Memjet delivers an entirely new category of technology that makes possible high-quality colour printing at never-before seen speeds and affordability. Memjet does this by putting more than 70,000 ink nozzles on a single printhead - 17 times the density of traditional inkjet printheads. Memjet's printhead is 8.77 inches wide. The design allows Memjet-powered printers to deliver more than 700 million drops of ink per second on a page. Memjet wide format technology combines five Memjet printheads to operate as one, firing more than 3 billion drops of ink per second.
