3M, along with its wholly-owned subsidiary 3M Innovative Properties Co., announced today that they have successfully concluded their lawsuits against Avery Dennison Corp. relating to retroreflective sheeting products used on traffic signs, pavement markings and other traffic control products.
3M’s patent infringement litigation against Avery has been resolved with the court entering a consent judgment in favor of 3M. Avery’s separate claims of patent infringement and antitrust violations against 3M have been dismissed by the court with prejudice.
“We are pleased that the court has entered judgment upholding the validity and enforceability of our patents related to DG3 sheeting, and that all allegations against 3M were dismissed,” said John Houle, vice president and general manager, 3M Traffic Safety and Security Division. “We look forward to continuing to bring our innovative, patented reflective sheeting technology to our customers.”
Reflective sheeting technology was pioneered by 3M more than 60 years ago. 3M continues to lead innovation in that technology, investing enormous resources to develop products, such as its 3M Diamond Grade DG3 Reflective Sheeting, to meet the changing traffic control needs and visual requirements of motorists.
