Spandex has announced the availability of Mutoh’s new high-performance, variable drop, solvent Blizzard series of printers.

The Blizzard 65 and Blizzard 90 offer printing widths of 1640mm and 2230mm respectively and deliver production output quality up to 40 m²/h and top speeds up to 80m²/h for high-volume requirements. Thanks to fast drying inks that achieve brilliant colours and exceptional image quality, the Blizzard is perfectly suited to fulfil demanding customer needs in both indoor and durable outdoor applications.

blizzard.gifMutoh’s Blizzard series prints directly onto a wide array of low-cost coated and uncoated substrates, including vinyl, banner and soft signage and is targeted both at small sign businesses needing versatility, as well as larger operations seeking extended capacity and increased flexibility. The vast application possibilities achievable with the Blizzard include corporate signs; stage and window graphics; backlit box signage; construction announcements; vehicle graphics; indoor graphics such as photo blow ups and POS displays; and floor graphics.

Key to the Blizzard’s performance is Mutoh’s revolutionary i² Intelligent Interweaving print technology which lays down ink in carefully optimized wave forms, not the straight lines as used by all other wide-format printers. As a result, the innovative i² technique allows high-speed, bi-directional printing of all images, even in the most critical of print jobs. This feature drastically reduces or even eliminates typical inkjet printing issues such as horizontal banding, step mismatch banding and ink mottle.

The Blizzard also utilizes Mutoh’s high-performance solvent ink, available in 440ml cassettes and specifically tuned for the sign industry. The ink resists cleaners, detergents and commercially available degreasers and offers an outdoor durability on compatible media of up to three years without lamination.

To enable high quality printed output during speed oriented production, as well as impeccable high-end print work, the Blizzards feature two head sets in a micro-staggered layout, allowing print resolutions up to 720 x 720 dpi. Using Dynamic Variable Dot Imaging Technology, each ink droplet is individually adjusted to provide high speed and high quality with low ink consumption.

Spandex will sell the new Blizzard series printers as standard with an ink starter kit (2 x 4 CMYK) and a fully motorized heavy-duty unwinding/winding system for media loads up to 100 kg, allowing unattended roll-to-roll printing. A variety of bulk-ink systems are available as options.
