Signwave in Penrith, Sydney has completed a wrap with a difference, a solar powered vehicle that will race over 3000kms from Darwin to Adelaide.
The UNLIMITED is the name of the vehicle and it was developed by the students at the University of Wesern Sydney specifically for this race which is the biggest solar endurance race in the world.
David Amor, owner of Signwave Penrith said that yes, the job was unlike any other wrap that the company does on a regular basis.
Ashley Ross, Signwave Penrith graphic designer arranged the artwork and created the print file. Then the shell of UNLIMITED was brought to the Signwave centre for the wrap to be applied which obviously did not include the flat top side which was covered with the 391 solar cells.
Short on time from the original briefing, the compaby had less than two weeks to complete the job before UNLIMITED was shipped to Darwin.
David Amor said that because the shell was made from carbon fibre, they had to be very careful with the installation since we need to heat the vinyl and therefore we had to be careful to avoid delamination of the carbon fibre.”
Once the car was ready, Signwave Penrith also wrapped the trailer that will transport the car – along with magnetics for the support vehicles - much to the praise of Western Sydney University Solar Car project team.
