Textiles and print media supplier Ricky Richards is continuing its Christmas tradition of raising funds for a worthy cause, this year lending its support to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
“Our Ricky Richards tradition continues this year as we give thought to those less fortunate and support our community,” says Kelly Morgan, events coordinator, Ricky Richards. “For 19 years, Ricky has worked together with our customers to raise substantial funds which have supported sick children and their families while they are in hospital.
“On December 7th, we will once again raise funds to support the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick to help sick kids just like Marguerite (pictured above). You can read her story here and please remember to place an order on Friday. On this day Ricky Richards will donate a percentage of all sales to the hospital’s greatest area of need.”
Marguerite developed epileptic spasms as a baby and began suffering debilitating seizures, up to 100 times a day by the age of four, which caused serious injuries. She was forced to wear a helmet with a face guard every day and sit on a special couch at school with a full-time teacher’s aide.
Doctors in the epilepsy team at Sydney Children’s Hospital eventually decided she needed neurosurgery to remove her left temporal lobe and disconnect the left side of the brain from the right.
“There were no guarantees that surgery would improve her seizures but there was no alternative,” says Marguerite’s mum, Lindie. “Whatever deficits she would be left with after the surgery would be a far better outcome than where Marguerite was heading. But we had faith in our team and the decision they had made.”
It’s now been four months since the surgery and Marguerite has been seizure-free ever since.
“Marguerite is working hard on her walking and has returned to school three times a week for one hour,” says Lindie. “She is smiling through every day. I have my little girl back and I can’t thank the hospital enough.”
