The Australian Sign & Graphics Association (ASGA) has called a meeting of its members in Brisbane next week to address new federal building code legislation relating to Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding. The breakfast meeting follows well-attended ASGA events in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.

The new Building Construction Code was introduced last year to limit the spread of fires caused by ACM cladding sheets on the outside of buildings. ACM, commonly used in indoor and outdoor signage applications, has a polyethylene core sandwiched between two thin aluminium panels.

ASGA says the signage industry has been “caught in the net” of the new legislation.

A new building construction code has been introduced to limit the spread of fires on the outside of buildings. The target was the cladding industry but the signage industry has been caught in the net. The effects on our industry are wide ranging and poorly understood.

The Brisbane Information Breakfast Session will take place on Thursday 6 June, 7:30am-9:00am at the Waterloo Hotel, corner Anne St and Commercial Rd, Newstead

Topics on the agenda include: The external cladding of buildings – fire proofing challenges; Implications for signmakers/installers; What rating are my signage materials?

ASGA general manager Michael Punch says anyone is welcome  - “they do not have to be current financial members.”
