Print technology manufacturer Kyocera Document Solutions has acquired Sydney-based information and communications tech provider Huon IT as it seeks a larger share of the Australian market.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Huon IT to Kyocera Document Solutions," said Ryosuke Okochi, managing director of Kyocera Document Solutions Australia and New Zealand. “The acquisition of Huon IT is part of Kyocera's ongoing strategy to support Australian businesses as we drive change and expand our own business.
“We are confident that we can add value to our customers with expanding our product offering and a new choice in ICT [information and communications technology] services. Huon IT services will integrate into our business offering with their high performance ICT solutions that complement our own values and commitment to our customers.”
Japan-based global giant Kyocera manufacturers a range of print technology including wide format systems, monochrome and colour printers, multifunctional products, document solutions, application software, and supplies. Net sales for the year ended March 21, 2019 totalled 375 billion Yen ($A4.9bn).
Huon IT has 30 years of experience in offering ICT services, with branches in Sydney and Melbourne.
Kyocera says the document solutions market in Australia in recent years has been moving from MDS (Managed Document Services) to comprehensive services, which includes IT infrastructure development and management.
“As a response to this market transformation, the company will integrate Huon IT's expertise in providing ICT services to strengthen the business in the Australian market and enhance comprehensive service capabilities,” according to a press release.
“In conjunction with Huon's ICT services, Kyocera also plans to offer its ECM (Enterprise Content Management) solutions, which automates and streamlines workflows, thus becoming capable of providing comprehensive, thorough document solutions to its customers.”
Huon IT CEO & founder Damian Huon says the deal marks an exciting "next step" for his company. "Now with Kyocera's support, we can reach heightened levels of innovation, expand our services, and reach new markets, both in terms of location and verticals. The sale price was not disclosed.
