Mimaki's full-colour 3D printer used in TV series trailer

Mimaki's full-colour 3D printing technology is really coming of age. To celebrate 50 years of the UK soap opera Emmerdale, the producers wanted a TV trailer featuring actual cast members during a wild storm in the village. Enter Mimaki and 3D scanning boffins Europac3D, with help from UK Mimaki distributor Hybrid Systems and their 3DUJ-553 full colour tech. As Mimaki says: "Every signmaker should look into 3D printed signnage & display."

Memjet returns home with new manufacturing factory in Sydney

Memjet's spiritual home is Sydney, Australia where Kia Silverbrook and his team developed the first MEMS printhead technology from the late 1990s to early 2000s, amassing thousands of patents along the way. Silverbrook Research was later acquired by American interests, along with all the patents. The good news is that some of the manufacturing is coming back to Australia.

'Evolving landscape': 3M to quit PFAS manufacturing

Manufacturer 3M will exit the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) manufacturing market and discontinue its use of PFAS chemicals across its product portfolio by the end of 2025. The company's current annual sales of manufactured PFAS is about $1.3 billion.

Kyocera expands with new manufacturing plant in Nagasaki

Kyocera Corporation plans to build a manufacturing plant on 37 acres of land in Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, to expand its production capacity. The company did not say which products will be made at the new facility.

Call to turn off digital billboards at night to save energy: UK campaign

“We are petitioning the UK government to follow the example of Germany, Austria, France and Spain and mandate that digital ad screens are switched off at night to save energy,” says UK lobby group Adfree Cities. Traditional paper billboards are a more sustainable alternative, it says.

Digital printer Revolution Print has joined with Ball & Doggett and Konica Minolta Australia to launch a Flood Fundraiser 2023 calendar to support front-line community groups helping victims of the devastating recent floods across Echuca and Rochester in northern Victoria. Ball & Doggett donated 250gsm (cover) and 170gsm satin (internal) paper, and Konica Minolta supplied the ink.

Gas caps Law just a beginning says AiG

The capping of prices for Australia's gas became Law today. Its significance can not be overstated. If energy supply runs out by being sold to the highest bidder, Australian business grinds to a halt, or becomes unviable. Households too suffer at every level. Energy and electricity created modern economies and the restriction of it can equally bring them down. That a resource-rich country like Australia can be faced with such an energy crisis beggars belief - but past policy mistakes are another story. The AiG reckons the new price-capping Law is just a first step on the ladder.

Opal Australian Paper flags 'stand downs' at Maryvale Mill

Opal Australian Paper says it’s continuing to seek alternative wood supplies following a court-ordered suspension of timber harvesting in Victoria, but it’s warned that white paper production at its Maryvale mill is expected to be “impacted’ around 23 December and temporary stand downs of workers could begin in January.
