OOH boosts revenue but it's still below pre-pandemic levels

The Australian Out of Home (OOH) industry recorded a 24% jump in revenue to $812.7 million for 2021 (up from $655.2m in 2020) but said revenue still trailed pre-pandemic results and was down 17.3% on 2019’s $982.3m. Meanwhile, global outdoor leader JCDecaux's 2021 revenue increased by 18%.

Changes to NZSDA awards: 'signage evolving every year'

A new category – Traditional Handcrafted Signs - has been created, the Wayfinding & Navigation and 3D modelling categories have been removed, and Digital Signs has been replaced with Brand Creation. The Vehicles – Custom Wrapped category now requires a copy of the Content License Agreement for any use of any trademarked or copywritten imagery.

Ricoh increases sales results, wins EDP awards for latex wide format

Shortly before announcing impressive sales and profit growth, Ricoh's Pro L5130e and Ricoh Pro L5160e extended gamut latex printers (with green and orange inks) won the EDP 2021 Award for Roll-to-roll Printers 170cm. The awards highlight developments in print production tools, software, substrates, inks, materials and finishing systems.

Full line up of major exhibitors announced for FESPA Berlin

FESPA Global Print Expo and European Sign Expo 2022 (31 May – 3 June 2022, Messe Berlin, Germany) are set to bring together the strongest line-up of exhibitors since 2019, with more than 250 suppliers already contracted to exhibit and many more active discussions in progress. The list of confirmed participants includes many who were unable to be at the 2021 Amsterdam event and who are now eager to regain their momentum by being part of the northern Spring 2022 events.

Screen's L350UV SAI inkjet label press wins best in class EDP Award

The jury voted the Truepress Jet L350UV SAI S ‘Best label printer' for its ease-of-use, thanks to its advanced software, as well as for its improved colour quality and increased speed.

Cyber gangs targeting Microsoft Excel add-in files: HP

There was a six-fold increase in cyber attackers using malicious Microsoft Excel add-in (.xll) files to infect systems in the last quarter, according to HP’s latest global Wolf Security Threat Insights Report.

Materials and logistics costs are "soaring" says Epson

Epson’s third-quarter revenue increased due to a market recovery from COVID and at-home print demand but profit decreased due to steep increases in the costs of materials and logistics. The company warned that logistics costs would continue to rise due to the use of air transport and increased ocean freight costs.

Agfa’s Jeti Tauro wins EDP large format award

Ovato’s 'extensive' restructuring improves cash flow

ASX-listed printer Ovato reported significantly lower net cash loss of $4.3 million (down from a loss of $23 million pcp) in its quarterly cash flow report for the three-months ended 31 December 2021. “Ovato continues to be adversely impacted financially and operationally by the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Australia and in New Zealand."

OMA upgrades MOVE audience measurement system

Canon's print business reports 53% jump in profit for 2021

“Although sales were significantly affected by the unsettled situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, profit significantly exceeded pre-COVID 2019 profits,” Canon said. Production printing sales for 2021 rose by more than 15% compared to 2020, while profit increased 53% to ¥225.7bn. Total Canon Inc. group sales were up 11.2% to ¥3,513bn and operating profit surged 155% to ¥281.9bn.
